| Abstract: | The machining parameter selection problem in metal cutting is considered. The general economic model may be attractive as it forms a synthesis of physical, cost, and time measures. Although gradient-based approaches are well known in single-objective optimization, the approach is new because it uses the decision maker's responses to paired comparisons of alternatives to assess the gradient and to search alternatives for multiple objective problems. The problem is converted into a discrete set of alternatives. Paired comparison is used to find the best alternative with a minimum of interaction. Efficient alternatives are generated. |
