Abstract: | A large number of firms employ automatic stock control and ordering techniques as part of their inventory control systems. The techniques of stock control are well established. However, the success of these techniques depends on the database that provides information and the correct selection of parameters of the system. A failure can lead to errors in stock ordering. Detecting errors is made difficult by the size. An attempt to generate an expert system that will perform the task of diagnosis for errors in the operation of an automatic stock system is described. The system is required to reason from symptoms such as reports from the forecasting system or high stock levels, to defects in the stock model or data-collection progress, and to possible remedial action. |
