Abstract:Based on a study of 33 diverse companies, presented is a useful three stage conceptual framework to help to explain how high potential employees in many firms are trained and developed to move up the corporate ladder to top leadership positions. Raised are key questions about managing plateaued individuals and internal entrepreneurs, competing values vis-a-vis the balance between high potentials personal and professional lives, and the link between a firm's high potential management approach and its corporate culture.
