Abstract:The major theme of the paper has been to study the effects of money, debt and government spending on the real rate of interest. Contrary to the bulk of the previous articles, the authors decompose the movements of money and federal debt into anticipated and unanticipated components. Moreover, temporary and permanent movements in certain spending items are taken into account. The findings suggests that only unanticipated or temporary, fiscal and monetary policy actions matter for real rate of interest.
