Abstract:The paper studies whether private patients, who generally pay higher prices than beneficiaries of the Medicaid, receive the same or higher quality services than Medicaid patients in the same nursing home. Estimates of a cost function for Texas nursing homes in 1983 show that the mix of patients does not affect the firm's cost. This proves that private and Medicaid patients in the same facility get the same level of quality of service.
