| Abstract: | The efficient operation of an automatic placement machine is investigated. The problem is treated as two different sequencing problems. The optimal insertion sequence for a fixed feeder setting is obtained as a solution to the three-dimensional asymmetric traveling salesman problem. The optimal permutation of the components in the feeders is considered as a quadratic assignment problem. The overall problem is solved heuristically and the suboptimal solution is good enough in practice. |
