Abstract:A truly difficult goal in many companies establishing effective data security. Data security, controls and audits are not natural high-priority items for the managers and employees of most organization. The results of a survey of successful data security managers are presented. These successful security managers recognize that they have a political job. They understand that they must develop informal power. To do so, they must understand the patterns of influence in their organization. A four-box influence pattern model is provided, with quadrants labeled Personal, Official, Meetings and Huddles. Winning acceptance of ideas can be done in various ways by understanding how and when to move ideas through these four quadrants.
