Abstract:A capacity plan approach is presented that finds a mix of dispatchable and nondispatchable resources. The first phase constructs a deterministic model. It employs derating techniques for both conventional and nondispatchable technology contributions in the production costing problem. The solution may be considered as an approximate solution. The algorithms exploit the structures. A second phase uses the traditional probablistic simulation technique, along with an hour-by-hour simulation of nondispatchable technology contributions in an algorithm in order to refine the foregoing solution. Very few additional phase-two iterations are needed, which therefore yields a significant computational savings over a purely probablistic approach.
