Abstract: | A variety of meanings associated with fairness are explained. Nine specific elements of this concept are listed and briefly defined: trust, consistency, thruthfulness, integrity, expectations, equity, influence, justice, respect. Some problems of measuring fairness are discussed. Sample items on Fairness Climate Questionnaire are presented. In a study ten high-cost and ten low-cost retail stores were selected in order to test hypotheses about the effects produced by a management-created climate of fairness. According to this study, employees' perceptions of management's fairness may affect the bottom line. An experiment with a formal training program based on the nine dimensions of fairness is reported. |
