Abstract:Recent trade negotiations with the USA may already be influencing Japanese users and creating a more open, competitive Japanese supercomputer market, especially in the public sector. USA firms now hold less than 6 p.c. of the supercomputer market in the public sector, but practically all automakers in Japan are using Cray supercomputers. Supercomputer installations in Japan show that Fujitsu has installed 141 supercomputers in Japan to date. The electronics industry leads in the use of supers, followed by heavy industry/automotive with 22.7 p.c.
