Abstract: | The question of responsibility for getting a job done is discussed. If careless mistakes, missed deadlines, a pattern of errors that go uncorrected or other symptoms of employee drift are experienced, the reason can be that the message to employees is conveyed in such a way that they are not hold really responsible for the outcome of their job. Only by accepting the reality that every worker is 100 percent responsible, can a manager elicit the best that each employee has to give. Some management styles and practical cases are discussed in line with employees' responsibilities. A few guidelines are: Clearly articulate jobs, use performance appraisal, make the employee the boss of his or her job etc. |
