| Abstract: | The nationalized sector accounts still for 20 % of Austrias industry. Until the early eighties these firms were the instruments of state economic, labour, regional etc. policy at the expense of microeconomic efficiency. Legislation of 1985 decoupled management of these firms from politics. Profit became the most important success indicator. State firms still have important role in R&D, education, production with high value added etc. |
