Abstract: | A great deal of data published by official statistical sources undergoes a process of revision as new information come to light. The result is reflected in several vintages of an observation relating to a specific time period being available. The process can result in substantial revisions to the preliminary estimates. The construction of a consistent data matrix for each series allows the authors to analyse the stationarity of the revisions and co-integration properties of the preliminary and final vintages. A finding of non-co-integration between the initial and final vintages of a particular variable implies that regression models relying on the initial data alone to predict the final data will be flawed. |
