Abstract:The first Jesuit missionary settlements on the territory of today's Bolivia were founded at the end of the 17th century. By the 18th century some of the local tribes were settled in missionary villages. The missionary traditions of those days were kept by the Indians even after the independence of Bolivia. The symbolism of religious rites however changed over the last century with the developments of the market society. Today religious and folk traditions become a spectacle for tourists, which has a very bad effect on society.
