Abstract:An extension of the average cost dynamic lot size model (DLSM) is given to a discounted DLSM which includes the average cost model as a special case. A sharp upper bound is derived on the minimal forecast horizon in the discount DLSM with constant initial demand. This bound is given by m(m+1) where m is the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ'S) worth, i.e. th e number of periods for which the total demand equals EOQ. The results do not require the infinite horizon problem to be well defined, nor do they require it to be unique. Some sensitivity results with respect to the discount factor and the setup cost are also provided.
