Abstract:It has been about two decades since pressure began for corporations to develop and publicise social audits. This seems an appropriate time, therefore, to evaluate their status. Accordingly, the authors review the environment in which the concept emerged , their main types and attributes of the audit and its evolution to the present time. The social audit remains a central mechanism for providing a self-portrait to the corporation which enables it to monitor its objectives and goals against its operational reality.
