| Abstract: | Numerous studies have recognized that organizational form plays an important monitoring role. The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there exists a systematic relationship between post-merger managerial organization (e.g., the relative managerial position of the acquired firm's managers) and the type of merger that is consistent with an agency-based explanation. The data show that the top managers of the target firm joined the top management of the newly merged firm in 17 of the 37 cases of horizontal mergers in the author's sample period. |
