| Abstract: | In this article the effects of structural change on industrial relations and labour management in public enterprise are explored, using results from several phases of empirical research into British Rail. Two main industrial relations effects are identified. The first is termed the retreat from standardization and has several components. The second set of changes revolve around the accessibility of trade union representatives to managerial decision-making. |
