Abstract:Strategy is above all a practical discipline, giving those who try to implement it a possibility to express and develop themselves. Only in the real world can the strategists show what their theories are really worth. Japanese managers trying to enter the European markets talk about gaining a "toehold" or implementing and "offensive action plan". The European managers are increasingly adopting a similar military strategists' vocabulary, giving the impression of an on-going brutal economic war where sheer survival is at stake.
