Abstract:During 1978 to 1995, China's GDP per capita had been more than quadrupled while the Gene coefficient, which reflects changes in regional differential, had remained relatively stable. It dropped from 0.24 to 0.23 in the same period. After 1985, it slowly went up again. In 1995, it reached 0.27. In the period of 1978 to 1995, per capita income had been quadrupled. The Gene coffinciecy of per capita income dropped between 1978 and 1982, from 0.13 to 0.10. afterwards , it began to rise again and reached the 0.13 level of 1978 in 1987. Then it kept on rising till 0.17 of 1995. Changes of the differential of GDP per capita within the east, the middle and the west regions show the same tendency. However, the situation of per capita income shows that the leading degree of developed areas is becoming higher and higher.
