Abstract:The author states that for years economists have been pointing out: Europeans are not having enough children to finance the state pension systems they expect to support them in their old age. Throughout Europe, governments are reining in excesses and promoting the idea that individuals should take more responsibility for financing their old age. Then the author states that as Europeans face up to the fact that tomorrow's government benefits will be skimpier than today's money will be shifted out of banks and mattresses and into the capital markets. Further, the author provides a "good" and a "bad" news for European pensioners. The concludes saying that if you're still dreaming of that villa in Marbella, save more, work longer, marry rich, or win the lottery.
