Abstract:The author of the article considers the topic of building the new 32-mile pipeline, which will double barrel-a-day capacity, making the opening of a dozen oil 'blocks' feasible. The author states that a poor economic record means Ecuador isn't the first place businesses think of investing in, but there's a slim chance the country's fortunes may change. The eyes of contemporary investors are more likely to be fixed on the 40 years' worth of oil reserves than on gold. The author states that now president Gustavo Noboa, Ecuador's leader is desperate to show the world that while Ecuador may be the world's leading banana producer, it is no "banana republic".
