Abstract: | This article examines how extreme seasonality of tourist demand affects family businesses and which kind of strategies the owners develop to cope with the seasonality. Family business owners on the Island of Bornholm, Denmark, were interviewed and they also filled up a questionnaire. The results show existence of three strategies: coping, combating, and capitulating. Implications for destinations and family businesses are made and future research areas are suggested. |
