Abstract:This paper investigates the effects of environmental, organizational and top managersÂ’ characteristics on the initiation, adoption decision and implementation of innovation. It is shown that while each dimension accounts for a unique variance in the adoption of innovation, organizational characteristics and top managersÂ’ attitudes towards innovation have a stronger impact than environmental and top managersÂ’ demographic characteristics. There is no evidence of difference in the direction of effects of any antecedents. However, there are differences in the significance of effects of several antecedents on the phases of innovation adoption.
