Abstract:This article analyzes the adoption of a complex human resource management technique, Assessment Center (AC), in 161 firms both at the headquarters (HQ) and in their Italian subsidiaries. This article examines how different and partly contradictory institutional influences stemming from national business systems and professions, global corporate networks and professions, and different technical-economic conditions affect the adoption of AC. The study reveals that AC-diffusion is similar at HQ level in all national contexts. The study shows how different characteristics of the corporate field of firms with HQ in different countries, as well as organizational size and labor market conditions, still explain adoption of the AC in their subsidiaries in Italy.
