Abstract:Trade in cultural activities is discussed as a topic of multilateral trade negotiations. The role of governments in determining cultural trade policy is summarized. The Canadian government's experience in developing and administering cultural policies is described. Methods of culture regulation are analyzed especially in the production of films and TV programmes. National content requirements are outlined. Different interpretations of the requirements are discussed. Trade barriers that will need to be examined are listed. The Canadian cultural trade policy is compared with that of the USA.
