Abstract:Plateauing refers to the slowing down and the end of promotions. It can occur for personal and organizational reasons. Several causes for career plateauing are suggested related to job function, personal characteristics, and the strategy and corporate culture of the firm. Plateaus are searched in terms of the following questions:why do people in various stages of plateauing move between jobs? What is the job tenure of plateaued and nonplateaued employees? Do these two groups of employees come from similar or different functional areas? Reasons for movement to present position, job change by function for last move, territory assignment and plateauing are formulated by tables.
