Abstract:Whichever type of financial institution is examined the Japanese lead the field. The need of the rapidly growing and massively successful economy, the rapid rise of the yen, and the intense competition between these institutions are identified as the reasons for the dramatic rise of Japanese financial institutions. The range and the scope of their hidden reserves, and the obstacles to be overcome before they start their overseas operations are analyzed. The strategy of the three largest Japanese banks - Fuji Bank, Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank and Mitsubishi Trust and Banking - is presented as examples.
