| Abstract: | Most large firms are not organized to manage innovation. They are organized to run large, mature, cost-efficient business. Senior managers with new venture unit /NVU/ experience were surveyed from eighty leading Canadian firms. The key concerns that emerged from this research are reported: whether to develop products related to existing operations; how to cope with staffing, compensation; unit structure issues; the feasibility of merging with existing operations. The common problems for each topic are described and analyzed. Implementation advice is offered to make NVUs work. |
