| Abstract: | The number of articles show a growing interest in management development. This has heightened the need for a broad-based review which will pull the material together, give shape to it, evaluate it and draw out its implications. This review focuses on the English-language literature on management development in Western countries - mainly Britain, North America and Australia. Definitions are presented and discussed. A number of theoretical frameworks are reviewed. Special attention is paid to the development of managerial competencies. The problems and methods of management training, coaching, mentoring and self-development. The role of assessment centres and other personnel management issues are examined. |
