Abstract:At the Broadcast Europe '89 conference, Bill Andrewes, Granada Rental and Retail chairman said that the U.K. would be the European testing ground for direct-to- home satellites. He warned that public confusion mainly in the fields of encryption smart cards and adapting to receiving MAC transmission might hit dish sales. He accepted that manufacturers had waited until the Astra was launched safely, which caused the present retail shortage of dishes.
