Abstract:The feedback-seeking behaviour of nearly 400 managers as observed by their superiors, subordinates, and peers was examined. Results suggest that tendency to seek negative feedback increased the accuracy of managers' understanding about how these feedback sources evaluated their work. Seeking positive feedback decreased the three constituents' opinions of the managers' effectiveness. The results support the proposition that active feedback-seeking is a central part of a total process of self-regulation for managerial effectiveness.
