Abstract: | Few commercial events in recent years have generated as much controversy as parallel importation. It confronts a variety of pragmatic issues concerning financial, legal and marketing matters. But it also involves more ethereal, philosophical and ethical questions such as property rights and the right to a free ride on assets owned by others. The genesis of the problem in the USA has shifted; the origin was once due to the low cost American dollar. The problem now more commonly derives from sellers whose strategy includes acting as discriminating monopolists and from opportunistic middlemen who break their allegiance to the channel family. |
