Abstract:In terms of the proportion of national debt in the sane year's GDP, the highest (Belgium) among the advanced countries reaches 142% while the lowest (Australia) is no less than 35%. China's national debt (balance), however, was only 426.5 billion yuan by the end of 1996, accounting for 6.3% of that year's GDP. National debt as the intermediate link of financial policy and monetary policy has the special position. China should increase its proportion in GDP for the highest relative scale of national debt among the figures in the hypothesis of its quantitative limit is 35% which is only the figure of the lowest among the advanced countries.
