| Abstract: | The trends of the UK market in fridges, freezers and fridge-freezers are considered /the new market for gas-fired appliances is excluded/. The market for refrigeration appliances is a mature one mainly confined to replacement sales. Some volume growth has been experienced since 1986 but at a low level, with the market now standing at 2.3 million units compared with 2.1 million in 1986 and 2.4 million in 1983. This sector makes up 20 percent of the entire white good market, up from 17 percent in 1985. The UK industry has been extensively restructured, and domestic production is growing. Market share by Italian manufacturers has fallen due to cheaper import from Eastern Europe and to more expensive brands. Tables showing data are given. |
