Abstract:The article examines methodological choices used in 245 empirical work-life balance studies published in discipline-based and peer-reviewed journals between the years 1987 and 2006. The findings indicate that there is a need for establishing better consistency between the conceptualization of constructs and the operationalization of measures. Furthermore, transparency should be enhanced when providing rationales for the choices of organizations or group lists used to target respondents.
