Abstract: | This article investigates the problem of allocating warehouse inventory to retailers when retailer orders do not occur simultaneously, and the warehouse has the opportunity to exchange demand indformation through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).The problem is specified by assuming a pure distribution system in that transhipments between retailers and stock returns to the warehouse are disallowed. Retailers may backorder any demand that cannot be satisfied. In this environment the service level furnished to each individual retailer is measured, in contrast to the system performance as typically measured by the probability of a shortage or the fill-rate across all retailers. |
