Abstract:The development of Shanghai's social economy in the 1980s was slow in relation to other regions in China. In the 1990s, Shanghai's economy has been restructuring its industries and quickening the process of economic marketalization with the development and the opening up of the eastern bank of the Huangpu river. For Shanghai's cross-century development, the idea of competition must be established and the innovative consciousness and ability of Shanghai people and enterprises be further stimulated and strengthened. Shanghai's development, however, must accommodate it self to the development strategy of the state's whole economy.
