Abstract:The author of this article states that logistics is changing fast as companies realize the money they can save by coordinating everything from warehousing to distribution. But most Central European firms have yet to grasp the opportunities. Logistics is fast becoming the height of fashion, as companies come to see as a key battleground for gaining competitive advantage. Logistics costs make up between 5% and 20% of total costs in a typical retailing or manufacturing company - a huge reserve of potential profits. The author also states that logistics has become a fully-fledged science, complete with its own research institutes and academic journals, that Central European firms are to find a place in the new pan-European supply chains - otherwise they will not be able to stay compatible.
