Abstract: | This study deals with the role of export composition (henceforth as: exp-cmp.) in the growth process, considering how increased similarity in trade structure among countries (as: ctrs.) can induce catching-up (here as: c-up.) in income levels in a group of transition ctrs. Analyzed are the sectoral export patterns (as: exp-pts.) of the Central and Eastern European ctrs. (CEECs) by comparing them to those of the the European Union (EU), with the focus on ctrs.' specialization as suppliers for the EU market. It is assessed whether similar exp-pts. foster the c-up. process of the CEECs. It is found that similarity in exp-cmp. has a positive, significant and non-linear impact on c-up., appearing to be driven by the growth of the main export market and delocalization of production. |
