Abstract:Public sector managers see corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategically important for their organizations and a positive correlation between CSR and financial performance is well established in the literature. However, little is understood about factors that lead to the positive correlation. This article aims to empirically discuss critical success factors (CSFs) for CSR in the Indian public sector, aspiring to evaluate the factors that make CSR successful. The results imply that ability to integrate CSR with other functional strategies is the most crucial factor for CSR success. Other critical success factors are ability to manage stakeholder groups, to evaluate CSR benefits and to support top management. Based on the research findings, some important managerial implications are proposed with respect to CSFs for CSR.
