Abstract:Interview data of 40 French enterprises in the sector of ready made clothes are processed with statistical methods, presented and analyzed. The ways of making an attractive assortment are described. Five key factors of product design are mentioned: material, form, colour, pattern of drawing and style or ornament. Using these characteristics five product groups are determined. It is shown that in the process of product development five more groups can be formed. There are six key specialists involved in the product design and assortment making. Their roles are investigated. The results of a multivariate analysis of ten important product characteristics are presented to show their roles in value creation.
