Abstract:Most executives devote the bulk of their time and energy to their careers at the expense of their personal lives, creating an imbalance that can actually inhibit their effectiveness on the job. To address this problem, an executive must come to terms with previously hidden aspects of his or her inner self. Multiple case studies have been conducted to determine the causes and consequences of the imbalance between work and personal life. Organisational expectations and rewards are compared with the rewards of family and personal life. It is shown that the values and pressures of organizations can actually inhibit an executive's effectiveness on the job as well as his or her overall well-being.
