Abstract:As portable computers grow in popularity , thefts of both the laptop itself and the data it contains become more of a threat. this is of special concern to accountants because for many, laptops are becoming their tool of choice and these laptops store some very valuable proprietary data. Today's laptops weigh as little as four pounds, yet they are capable of storing as much data as the midsized mainframes of the 1970s. This article outlines some ways to reduce the opportunity for laptop thefts and ways to ensure the data cannot be accessed if computers are stolen.
