Abstract:In this article, explored is the relationship btw. information and communication technologies (ICTs) and politics (here as: polts). According to the optimistic approach, ICTs could act as catalyst in establishing democracy worldwide. From the pessimistic perspective, this outcome is not surprising as polts. in the virtual world reflects polts. in the real world. Both approaches share a traditional idea of polts., therefore failing to find any relevant change. However, there are significant changes, as shown by how citizens have refocused their political attention: social movements, civil associations, single issue groups or even discussion groups. This new kind of polts. crosses the boundaries btw. polts., cultural and civil valules, and identity processes.
