Abstract:A meta-analysis of recent microeconometric evaluations of active labour market policies is presented. Categorized are 199 programme impacts from 97 studies conducted from 1995 to 2007. Job search assistance programmes (here as: progs) produce relatively favourable programme impacts, while public sector employment progs being less effective. Training progs are associated with positive medium-term impacts, even though appearing ineffective in the short term. It is also found that the outcome variable used to measure progs impacts matters. Yet, neither the study's publication status nor the randomised design use is related to the significance of the progs estimates.
