Abstract:The paper answers the question whether local Nigerian oil companies have fared better or worse one year after the government revoked the exploration licenses of several firms. The author examines other oil related questions in and states that the long term impact of the Nigerian government's decision at the end of 2001 to revoke exploration licenses held by several Nigerian oil companies remains uncertain. While some commentators saw the move as confirmation of the unorthodox business practices of some Nigerian interests, others viewed the federal government's decision to withdraw the licenses in the wider context of the campaign to clean up Nigeria's image.
