Abstract:Post-communist countries in east and central Europe could be forgiven for regarding the czech republic with a tinge of envy. The problems Czech prime minister Vaclav Klaus now has to wrestle with are not so much those arising from the transformation of a command economy into one based upon market competition. The problems he now faces stem, to an increasing degree, from having to cope with success.
