| Abstract: | After years of chequered progress, a tidal wave of bank privatisations is sweeping across post-communist central east Europe. Governments now realise that privatisation in many instances by seeking foreign strategic partners, is not merely the only way to escape the financial burden of owning inefficient big commercial banks at the core of their local banking system, but also the best way to improve corporate governance in banking, promote efficiency in financial services. |
