Abstract:South Germany's Landesbanks are under pressure to re-group. This is an all- German process and is caused by two factors: (i) German investors became much more sensitive to yields, therefore bank deposits have been loosing ground. (ii) Within the banking sector itself the share of savings banks and the Landesbanks have been steadily falling. While Bavaria's development pace is much higher than the German average, the banking sector is more and more concentrated in Frankfurt. It is an open question how Munich's banks can defend their positions.
